Job Description:

Head of Private Client – Nottingham

A long-established and highly regarded regional law firm in Nottinghamshire is seeking to appoint a Head of Private Client as part of a planned succession. This is a confidential replacement for a retiring department head, offering a rare opportunity to step into a fully established and well-run team.

The Role

You will take responsibility for leading a busy and experienced Private Client department, with a broad caseload covering Wills, Probate, Trusts, and Estate Administration.

This is a blended role combining:

  • Leadership and supervision of an established team
  • A significant personal fee-earning caseload
  • Strategic input into the future direction of the department
  • Maintenance and development of long-standing client relationships

The incoming Head will inherit a stable, profitable team with strong client loyalty and a consistent flow of high-quality work.

The Opportunity

This is a succession-led appointment, not a turnaround mandate. The department is performing well and is known for its quality, consistency, and long-standing client relationships.

You will be stepping into:

  • A well-structured and experienced Private Client team
  • A strong existing pipeline of work
  • Deep-rooted regional client relationships
  • The support of a larger legal group behind the firm

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a respected department and shape its next phase of development with genuine autonomy.

The Candidate

The firm is open-minded on seniority, but is likely to appeal to:

  • An experienced Private Client Partner, Legal Director, or Senior Associate ready to step up
  • Strong technical expertise across Wills, Probate, Trusts, and Estate matters
  • Commercial awareness and a steady, relationship-led approach to practice
  • Someone seeking a long-term leadership position rather than a short-term move

Package

  • Salary up to£75,000, more depending on the right individual
  • Open to Director-level applicants
  • Hybrid working arrangement (Nottingham-based)
  • Strong long-term stability and progression potential within the wider group structure
