Overview
Environment Agency seeks two senior leaders to join the Chief Regulators Group as Deputy Director for Nuclear Regulation (OBRZL) and Deputy Director for Nuclear and Radioactive Substances Regulation (RSR) Strategy (OBRZM).

Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic direction of the Environment Agency’s regulation of the nuclear sector and wider uses of radioactive substances, including healthcare, academia and industry.
- Report to the Chief Regulator and sit on the Chief Regulators Group Leadership Team.
- Shape policy, strategy, regulatory reform and technical leadership to ensure regulation remains resilient, proportionate and future‑focused.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team (approximately 30 specialists) for the RS Regulation strategy role, manage significant programmes and resources, and collaborate with senior stakeholders across government, industry, regulators and international partners.
- Lead the nuclear regulatory programme delivery for the Agency, ensuring it is effective, proportionate and responsive to a changing landscape, while protecting people and the environment.
- Provide strategic and operational oversight of a large workforce (around 100 staff) with accountability for budgets and performance.
- Engage confidently with ministers, Parliament, industry leaders, regulators and the media; translate strategy into delivery; support sustainable growth, national resilience, energy security and public confidence in nuclear regulation.
- Demonstrate inclusive leadership, resilience and a strong public service ethos while guiding the organisation through regulatory transformation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrable experience in the nuclear sector, radioactive substances regulation, or other major hazard, safety-critical or highly regulated industries.
- Strong strategic judgement with the ability to lead complex organisations through change.
- Calm, authoritative decision-making in high-pressure environments.
- Ability to lead through significant regulatory transformation and work with diverse stakeholders across government, industry, regulators and international partners.

Remuneration and Location
Salary: £81k – £113k per year. Location: London. Full-time role.
