Consultant Clinical Geneticist

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist paediatric clinical genetics services across the Wessex region, including triaging referrals, conducting genetics clinics, advising acute and specialist teams on rare and complex genetic disorders, interpreting genomic testing results, and supporting diagnosis and family management for inherited conditions.

Possibility of providing cancer and/or cardiac genetic services depending on skills and departmental needs.

Contribute to teaching, training, audit and service development within an integrated regional genomics and laboratory network.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification – Qualifications, Training & Experience

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Appropriate knowledge base and sound clinical judgement
  • MRCP/MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Training, experience and competence in Clinical Genetics
  • Experience in variant interpretation
  • Participation in regular clinical audit
  • MD, PhD
  • Qualification in Education
  • Clinical and research interests complementing the department
  • PgCert in Genomics or Genomic Medicine
  • Variant interpretation course
  • GMC specialist registration with CCT/CCST in Clinical Genetics or within 6 months of interview
  • Recent publications from research experience
