Location: Barrow in Furness – On‑site

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 + benefits

Our client, an established defence engineering firm, is looking for an experienced Radio Frequency Engineer to join their multidisciplinary team in Barrow in Furness. Working on cutting‑edge marine systems, you will lead efforts in radar, infrared, visual, and RF signature reduction to contribute directly to the UK’s strategic defence capability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of the Stealth Engineering Department’s Above Water Signatures capability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design stealthy equipment and systems.
• Define technical requirements, test methods, and approval criteria.
• Provide above‑water signature subject‑matter expertise at key design review stages.
• Review design documentation to confirm that above‑water signature requirements are met.
• Lead modelling efforts for radar, infrared, visual, and RF signatures using custom and commercial tools.
• Develop testing methodologies to confirm signature performance.
• Support full‑scale trials during submarine commissioning.
• Manage research with internal teams and university partners.
• Improve stealth features on in‑service submarines.

Required Qualifications

• A degree (or equivalent experience) in Maths, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or another STEM field.
• Experience with modelling software or programming tools.
• A strong grasp of electromagnetism, radar, or infrared and visual detection technologies.
• British nationality, with residence and work in the UK for 5+ years, and eligibility for SC security clearance.
