The Role Quantity Surveyor

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured projects, our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to work across a range of construction projects, supporting both pre-contract and post-contract commercial activities while working closely with operational and management teams.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Contract Duties

  • Take off quantities for tendering purposes where required
  • Assist the Estimating department with tender preparation
  • Carry out estimating duties as required
  • Support budget setting and cost planning
  • Review contracts and contractual documentation

Post-Contract Duties

  • Appointment and management of subcontractors and labour-only subcontractors
  • Preparation of valuations and cost value reconciliation reports
  • Carry out cost investigations and reporting
  • Measurement and agreement of subcontract accounts
  • Identify, measure, and agree project variations
  • Identify value engineering and cost-saving opportunities
  • Monitor monthly cash flow against budget forecasts
  • Provide contractual and commercial advice to management
  • Measurement and agreement of final accounts
  • Attend site meetings and present financial reports
  • Prepare subcontractor payments in line with CIS and VAT requirements
  • Provide monthly and quarterly cost/valuation reports to accounts and management teams
  • Ensure subcontractor insurances comply with contractual requirements
  • Produce management reports and commercial updates as required

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years Quantity Surveying experience within a construction contracting environment
  • Third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, JCT and FIDIC forms of contract
  • Experience preparing and managing contractual claims
  • Knowledge of Conquest estimating packages preferred
  • Strong commercial awareness and cost management skills
  • Ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and deliver projects within budget
  • Up-to-date knowledge of pricing trends and inflation impacts
  • Advanced Microsoft Office and IT skills
  • Strong negotiation, communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage workload independently and meet project deadlines
  • Flexibility to travel across the UK where required
