Trust Locum Consultant Paediatrician

University Hospitals Tees seeks a full‑time General Locum Consultant Paediatrician for the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, based at the University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton, starting as soon as possible.

Job responsibilities

• Covers general paediatrics and level‑one neonates as Consultant of the Week.
• Acts within the Children & Young People’s Emergency Department (CYPED) and Special Care Baby Unit.
• Conducts outpatient clinics on the Hartlepool, Stockton or Peterlee bases.
• Provides on‑call coverage for the hybrid rota, including weekend on‑calls and resident cover: weekday evenings 17:00‑22:00 and weekend 09:00‑22:00.
• Supports outpatient clinics across the paediatric service.

Qualifications and experience

• Fully registered with the General Medical Council.
• Evidence of being on the UK Specialist Registrar route or within six months of achieving CCT, with intent to obtain CCT.
• Experience as a consultant or locum consultant in paediatrics.
• Expertise in a wide range of elective and emergency paediatric conditions.
• Independently responsible for clinical care of patients.
• Experience with child protection and safeguarding.
• Commitment to clinical audit.
• Strong understanding of NHS, social services, educational services and relevant safeguarding legislation.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Proficiency in APLS/EPLS/NLS.
• Teaching experience and formal teaching training.
• MRCPCH or equivalent qualification.
• Training in a paediatric specialist area relevant to the role.
• Experience working independently at consultant level.
• Experience managing children with complex needs.
• Experience in NHS management and leading specialist units or directorate teams.
• Experience in educational supervision.
• Publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Previous research experience.
• Quality improvement projects related to general paediatrics.

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per annum pro rata.
