Role description

UK Investment Advisory, which sits in Arcadis’ Advisory team, is a growing team, with over 40 team members. We advise financial investors around buying, selling, or managing infrastructure businesses, across a wide range of global asset classes – from chemical terminals, water companies and solar PV and wind generation plants, to nuclear power stations, data centres, road infrastructures and international airports. We are proud to have been the Vendor’s Technical Advisor for Sizewell, an historic milestone in the UK energy landscape. Working closely with lawyers and financial advisors, our team works on M&A transactions and divestments globally, drawing upon the in-depth experience of Arcadians worldwide. And although our work is largely ‘unseen’, it plays a critical role in achieving successful outcomes by assisting banks, equity and debt providers, asset managers and infrastructure developers in assessing the technical, commercial and financial viability of project.

We are seeking a Principal Consultant to join our UK Advisory team. In this role, you will work alongside Directors and peers across the UK Investment Advisory team, as well as the wider Advisory capability of Arcadis and the support technical teams across the globe. This role supports our Water and Regulated Industries sectors delivering technical due diligence and monitoring works solutions for key clients. As part of the Investment Advisory team, reporting to an Associate Director/Director, you will play a key role in shaping and growing this dynamic and expanding team. You’ll help deliver Technical Due Diligence, market research and advisory services for Investor Clients, as part of a highly talented and dynamic team. Role accountabilities

  • Deliver projects successfully – Apply skills, knowledge and insight to assist or lead the delivery of high-quality Technical Due Diligence (buy‑side, vendor‑side, lenders), whilst striving to exceed client expectations.
  • Manage projects or sections of large commissions, and contribute to the review of technical, operational and commercial aspects of proposed infrastructure investments. Based on experience, be asked to lead full projects and act as main point of contact with Clients, with minimal supervision.
  • Work effectively with identified Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across different teams and capabilities within global Arcadis.
  • Contribute to business development through preparation of technical and commercial offers for Due Diligence and Advisory services.
  • Contribute to internal development of the team and the wider Arcadis through knowledge share and assistance in improving Arcadis’ advisory process and standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • STEM degree (preferred: electric/mechanical/chemical/civil engineering, physics, chemistry) – other qualifications will be considered in the wider context of experience and skills.
  • Significant experience in the GB regulated water / wastewater sector and / or regulated energy networks (electricity, gas). The ideal candidate will have experience across multiple but we will also consider candidates who have deep experience in only one regulated utility sector.
  • Experience should ideally be acquired through roles in consulting, investment, operations, or asset management.
  • Growth mindset, curiosity, adaptability and will to challenge yourself by taking the lead on a wide variety of tasks, asset classes and business model, even if unfamiliar to you.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Flexibility and capacity to work on tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates excellent organisational skills, self‑motivation, self‑sufficiency and the ability to work successfully in a fast turnaround team environment.
  • Team player, able to deliver projects in a collaborative and inclusive manner.

Desirable

  • Experience in Due Diligence and transaction advisory will be highly regarded.
  • Exposure to financial modelling, project finance and/or commercial advisory (e.g. energy markets, contract commercial review).
  • Exposure to bid preparation and Client development.
  • Chartership to a relevant professional body would be favourably considered, although not strictly necessary for the role (e.g. IET, IMechE, ICE, CFA, MCA,…).
