Job Description:

To support developments within the Emergency Departments at Eastbourne District General Hospital and Conquest Hospital, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust requires a further Consultant in Emergency Medicine. The post holder will assist in the provision of a high quality emergency service as part of the development of a multi-disciplinary team approach to care within the speciality in a Cross-site role.

Applicants must have full GMC registration and be on the specialist register or within 6 months of their CCT.

Main duties of the job

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust operates two level 1 emergency departments at Eastbourne DGH and Conquest Hospital with Conquest designated as a Trauma Unit. The appointee will join the existing consultants to complete a team of 12 in the emergency department.

Duties will be Cross‑site with a base of one of the sites with a 1 in 3 weekend. It is anticipated that when all posts are filled the timetabled PAs of all consultants will allow shop floor/Ambulatory cover for the following hours—a rotation between 0800-00.00. We are particularly interested in candidates who have commitment to all aspects of Emergency Medicine and are keen to develop their careers.

Person Specification

Registration/ Qualifications

  • Full Registration with GMC and name on specialist register or CCT within 6 months of interview
  • Fellowship of College of Emergency Medicine or equivalence
  • Other higher qualifications

Administration & Management

  • Understanding of NHS management structure and the principles of Clinical Governance
  • Management course and/or qualifications

Research & Publications

  • Understanding of the role of research in Emergency Medicine

Teaching

  • Enthusiasm for teaching medical staff, nursing staff and students and other professional groups.
  • Qualification in Medical Education

Training and Experience

  • Wide experience in all aspects of Emergency Medicine
  • ALS Provider
  • ATLS Provider
  • Paediatric Life support Provider
  • Experience in Acute Medicine
  • Completion of other courses relevant to speciality
  • ALS,ATLS Instructor
  • Paediatric Life Support Instructor

Audit

  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
  • Evidence of completed audit project
  • Publication of original research and audit projects

Personal skills

  • Effective communicator, able to work in a multi-disciplinary team

Personal attributes

  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.
  • Ability to work with colleagues in other specialities to develop local services
  • Professional attitude towards work, and good record of attendance
  • Demonstration of management of change in clinical practise and commitment to integration of Emergency and Acute Medicine
