We are recruiting for an experienced Customs & Compliance Manager to join a well-established freight forwarder based in Tamworth. This is an excellent opportunity for a customs professional with strong compliance knowledge to take ownership of customs processes, support operational teams, and ensure the business remains fully compliant with UK customs regulations.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in freight forwarding, customs procedures, audits, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to lead, advise, and improve internal processes.

Role

As Customs & Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing customs compliance across the business, ensuring all import and export declarations, processes, and procedures meet current regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing customs compliance across import and export operations
  • Ensuring procedures are aligned with HMRC requirements and industry regulations
  • Supporting teams with customs queries, classifications, documentation, and process guidance
  • Reviewing and improving internal customs processes and controls
  • Monitoring compliance performance and identifying areas for improvement
  • Supporting audits, record keeping, and regulatory checks
  • Advising on customs procedures including CDS, commodity codes, origin, valuation, and incoterms
  • Liaising with HMRC, clients, carriers, and internal departments where required
  • Providing training and guidance to operational teams on customs compliance matters
  • Keeping up to date with changes in customs legislation and communicating updates internally

Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous customs compliance experience within freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain
  • Strong knowledge of UK import and export customs procedures
  • Experience working with HMRC requirements, CDS, customs documentation, and compliance processes
  • Good understanding of commodity codes, duty, VAT, origin, valuation, and incoterms
  • Previous experience in a supervisory, management, or senior compliance role
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to advise internal teams and external stakeholders
  • A proactive approach to process improvement and risk management
