Trading Standards Officer

Responsibilities

• Provide professional regulatory advice and guidance.
• Enforce legislation across Trading Standards areas including fair trading, civil advice, metrology, product safety, doorstep crime, age‑restricted sales, intellectual property, and tobacco control.
• Represent the employer at court and with external bodies, organisations and individuals on Trading Standards statutory functions.
• Investigate offences, issue legal notices, prepare prosecution files, and represent the council in court on Trading Standards and public health matters.
• Monitor performance, prioritise work, and meet deadlines and targets.
• Manage projects from initiation to completion, including developing and introducing new initiatives.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified with a diploma in trading standards or equivalent, including weights and measures qualifications.
• Experience working in a local authority or other enforcement or regulation service providing regulatory advice and guidance.
