Biogas Maintenance Engineer (BBBH28477)

Location: Wallingford, England

Salary: GBP 42,000 – GBP 44,000 per annum + bonus, life assurance and other benefits.

Commissioned by Astute’s Renewables team, partnered with one of the UK’s leading renewable energy providers, this role supports a portfolio of anaerobic digestion plants across England and Wales.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will:

  • be responsible for all operational equipment and machinery including front‑end processing, pumping technology, digester, ancillary equipment, heating circuit and pasteurisation processes;
  • follow, maintain and improve FIIX for all PPMs, input and detail any repairs or services on machinery to enhance a maintenance regime;
  • review and/or provide thorough method statements, risk assessments and permits to work for non‑routine maintenance tasks;
  • build and improve a planned preventative maintenance program;
  • support across three sites within the portfolio;
  • provide basic training, support and mentoring for site operatives;
  • deliver planned improvements and refurbishments as part of the planned maintenance programme;
  • ensure control measures and SSW (safe systems of work) are in place when undertaking any maintenance task;
  • maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure a safe and tidy work area;
  • undertake any training requirements as identified by the line manager;
  • be part of an on‑call rota;
  • perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • A recognised engineering qualification or demonstrable experience;
  • IOSH membership desired;
  • Compex and ATEX desirable;
  • A full UK driving licence is essential.

Personal Skills

  • experience working in anaerobic digestion or a similar heavy processing environment (e.g., water treatment, food manufacturing);
  • practical knowledge of environmental and working‑safe principles;
  • electrical competence;
  • mechanical hands‑on engineering essential;
  • working knowledge of substrate pumps;
  • confined space training;
  • experience of using and fixing pumps, valves, screw conveyors, gearbox drive units, heating circuits, macerators, hammermills and mixers.
