About the role
Working closely with Senior Financial Accountants, Financial Control Managers and the Financial Controller, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, complete external audits and liaise with National Audit Office (NAO), Government Internal Audit (GIA) and Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) colleagues.
Your responsibilities
- Leadership / Teamwork / Collaboration:
- Contribute actively to the team, making proactive suggestions to improve ways of working and coordinating with other UKRI teams.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and partners, providing input to resolve queries and share findings.
- Deal effectively with challenging situations and consult at a higher level when necessary.
- Adopt an adaptable, flexible approach, effectively multi‑tasking as required.
- Delivery / Programmes / Projects / Process:
- Produce monthly, interim, and year‑end financial accounts for one UKRI entity and report onto the DSIT accounts portal.
- Partner with UKRI Finance Business Partners (FBP) to ensure accurate management, financial accounts, and reconciliations.
- Prepare UKRI consolidated trial balances and detailed trial balances for interim and final accounts to support accounts consolidation.
- Provide audit data sets and liaise with the National Audit Office (NAO).
- Train and advise colleagues producing Counterparty and Whole of Government Accounts (WGA) datasets.
- Liaise with the Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) to provide evidence and robust explanations, support development of additional controls, and implement audit recommendations.
- Implement continuous improvement across financial control as part of a cloud‑based ERP system deployment.
Personal Specification
- CCAB qualified (desirable) or qualified by experience.
- Previous experience working in a finance environment with tight deadlines, including preparation of financial accounts and notes to accounts from trial balance.
- Experience of external audits, providing audit data and liaison with auditors.
- Ability to prioritise work and meet tight timescales, adapting to regularly changing priorities.
- Good understanding of financial accounts preparation and accounting principles.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
- Able to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Able to resolve problems independently while knowing when to consult or take advice.
- Knowledge of Oracle/Fusion and Workday.
