Job overview
We are seeking a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine, Acute medicine or General practice to join our Virtual Ward/ Hospital at Home and provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team caring for patients in a virtual ward setting.
This is a fixed term post for 12 months at 4 sessions per week to work on Thursday & Friday.
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the medical care of patients, supervising other medical staff, and ensuring the highest standards of care are delivered.
We are open to applications from candidates at all stages in exploring this sub-specialty including those for whom this would be a first post. We are looking for a collaborative colleague with a strong grounding in core community medicine who is keen to develop an interest in the virtual ward in a supportive environment.
The post holder will work within the Adult Community Services Department at Whittington Health. The primary duty of the post will be to provide senior clinical input to the Virtual Ward, Hospital at Home service.
This is an exciting opportunity to engage and provide senior clinical input into a dynamic and expanding service.

The lead consultant, senior GP will also liaise closely with consultant colleagues in acute medicine, respiratory and cardiology who each provide virtual support to their patient groups.
The structure of the service will develop further once the successful candidate is in post but is likely to involve a daily MDT, telephone advice, and some domiciliary visiting to more complex patients. The ward will receive ‘step down’ patients from acute Trusts across NCL including UCLH and Whittington Health acute hospitals as well as ‘step up’ patients from the urgent community response services in the Borough of Islington and Haringey. Prospective cover for annual and study leave will also be built into the timetable.

Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration
- MRCGP
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) or European Community Rights
- A medical degree and postgraduate qualifications in medicine (MRCP or equivalent)
- SCE in Geriatric Medicine
- MD/PhD
Special interest
- Comprehensive experience in managing patients with all aspects of geriatric and general medical problems
- Experience in working in community medicine, general practice, virtual wards.
- Experience in leading a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of service development
Teaching
- Experience in undergraduate and multidisciplinary teaching
- Evidence of CPD relevant to medical education
- Evidence of CPD relevant to Community working.
Research
- Understanding of research methodology
