Your role:

The role of Assistant Director for Safer & Stronger Communities plays an integral part in supporting Greater Manchester deliver its Police and Crime Plan, Fire Plan and ultimately the Greater Manchester Strategy launched last year. Alongside the Executive Director, Deputy Director and other Assistant Directors you will drive critical & innovative programmes of work under the Safer and Stronger Communities agenda. You will lead a portfolio and teams to achieve the ambitions as set out in the Greater Manchester Strategy, including the Police & Crime Plan.

Your role will work across Greater Manchester (GM), working closely with the Deputy Mayor for Safer and Stronger Communities, as well as Greater Manchester Police chief officers and senior leaders to maximise the level of service provided to our communities and to ensure the Mayor’s PCC statutory duties are met.

In addition, you will play a vital role in building and maintaining significant relationships with senior colleagues across GMCA, partner agencies and the voluntary, community, faith and social sector. You will also play a key role in developing cross–directorate working to ensure effective delivery of the GMCA Business Plan.

This is an exciting time to join our team, we have an ambitious agenda and have recently received further investment in our programmes of work. Some key strands that we are delivering as part of the Greater Manchester Strategy include: tackling Gender Based Violence, Criminal Justice transformation, reducing serious violence and knife crime and improving the response to hate crime.

About you:

Firstly, you will need to meet the values of the organisation and be just as passionate about shaping the future of Greater Manchester as we are. You will have a track record of success and the ability to operate in a strategic role, with evidence of leading the delivery of programmes of work that impact on local communities.

We are looking for a proactive leader who role models positive leadership and management behaviours, someone who can lead and manage their teams to achieve excellence as well as develop and foster a culture of high performance.

You will work closely with elected members, and senior leaders on a regular basis, as well as having high levels of business acumen, the ability to build and maintain effective relationships across the city region is a must.

You will be involved in giving comprehensive & critical advice to senior managers & political leaders and therefore a critical thinker & strong decision maker would fit well in this role.

It would be fantastic if you have experience in the Police, Crime, Criminal Justice, or Fire sector, however this is not essential.
