Job Title: Sales Advisor
Location: John Thompson & Sons York Road
Reporting to: Commercial Sales Manager
Hours:9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with flexibility
Salary will depend on experience.
Job Purpose:
The Sales Advisor is responsible for driving commercial growth within a designated sales territory by developing existing customer relationships, securing new business, and delivering high-quality technical and advisory support. The role combines customer engagement, farm-level service delivery, and strong commercial acumen to ensure the company achieves its market share, service, and financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, strengthen, and grow business with existing customers through regular visits, proactive engagement, and tailored support.
- Identify, secure, and develop new customers and accounts to expand the companys footprint within the territory.
- Achieve company targeted market share by executing effective sales strategies and maintaining a strong presence across the regional area.
- Provide regular feedback on sales activity, competitor insights, and marketing intelligence.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring professionalism and consistency in every interaction.
- Provide accurate technical guidance to customers, supporting informed decision making and product optimisation.
- Act promptly on customer complaints, ensuring effective follow up and resolution.
- Maintain clear, timely communication with customers, colleagues, and partners.
- Implement and manage company credit policies and procedures to minimise financial risk.
- Ensure accounts are collected within agreed terms, addressing issues promptly.
- Promote direct debit and postal payment options to support efficient account management.
- Deliver company ruminant services effectively at farm level and within the merchant network.
- Conduct sampling, analysis, and interpretation of silage and grass results to support customer feeding strategies.
- Prepare accurate, tailored feed plans to optimise herd performance and customer outcomes.
- Support meetings, demonstrations, product launches, and marketing campaigns.
- Complete all sales, prospecting, and customer activity records accurately and on time.
- Maintain regular telephone contact and conduct scheduled customer visits.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pricing policies, product information, and technical developments.
- Undertake any other duties as required to support the success of the business.

- Hold a current valid driving licence
Desirable Criteria
- Formal training or qualifications in agriculture, animal nutrition, or a related field.
- Experience conducting on-farm assessments or technical sampling.
- Knowledge of feed planning, grassland management, or livestock performance metrics.
- Possess a 3rd level qualification in agriculture
- 2+years Sales experience in the animal feed industry or general agricultural industry
