ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Lead Software Engineer, you’ll be responsible for leading the technical delivery of software systems for Abstract’s clients. You’ll play a key role in translating client needs into robust technical solutions, guiding development teams through project execution, and fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration. This role balances hands‑on development with team leadership, ensuring quality, innovation, and alignment with client goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance, and maintainable software systems.
  • Translate client requirements into technical architecture and delivery plans.
  • Ensure high standards of code quality, security, and documentation across the team.
  • Define and promote architectural principles and design patterns to support long‑term solution integrity.
  • Oversee complex problem‑solving and act as an escalation point for technical challenges.
  • Provide day‑to‑day technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to development teams.
  • Line manage and develop engineers, fostering a collaborative, high‑performing team culture.
  • Lead project delivery, ensuring alignment with timelines, scope, and quality expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, tools, and workflows.
  • Evaluate and introduce new technologies to enhance solutions and service offerings.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and cross‑functional teams to define scope and deliver successful outcomes.
  • Communicate technical decisions and progress clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Significant hands‑on experience as a full stack developer, building scalable web applications and RESTful APIs.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles and object‑oriented development.
  • Strong proficiency in C# and the .NET framework.
  • 5+ years hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud platforms and services.
  • Proficiency in front‑end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and TypeScript.
  • Experience with modern front‑end frameworks (e.g. Angular, React).
  • Experience designing and working with databases (e.g. MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB).
  • Experience working in Agile environments (e.g. Scrum, Kanban).
  • Strong communication skills, with experience working directly with clients with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Proven experience leading technical delivery within cross‑functional teams, including mentoring developers.

  • Flexible Hybrid working structure (3 days in office).
