Maintenance Engineer – Macclesfield
My client situated in Macclesfield is looking to add a Maintenance Engineer to their ever growing Engineering Division.
Salary £50-55k
Overview
The role involves working on both old and new machines, completing reactive and planned maintenance in a fast paced, safety-conscious environment. The maintenance engineer will help minimise engineering downtime and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Conduct planned maintenance, breakdowns, and statutory checks on a wide variety of machinery, from state‑of‑the‑art coating machines to slitting and sheeting equipment.
- Perform all engineering activities safely and professionally, ensuring compliance with legislation, company policy, and health and safety procedures.
- Document work by completing reports at the end of each shift and flagging issues for the incoming shift.
- Assist in audits and continuous improvement activities, supporting 5S and workplace organisation standards.
- Liaise with the Engineering Team Leader to prioritise workload and secure resources for issue resolution.
- Control contractors, ensuring proper induction, permits and that work on site meets safety requirements.
- Work within permit‑to‑work and isolation systems, and ensure equipment is safely isolated whenever necessary.
- Support a range of engineering and non‑engineering business projects and processes.
- Be prepared to cover additional hours for emergency situations.
- Improve overall machine availability across the site.
Qualifications
- Electrical or Mechanical engineering qualification is essential.
- Ability to work independently on the night shift, as only one engineer is on nights.
- Reliable, resourceful and flexible with strong problem‑solving skills.
- Experience with CMMS and maintenance of a diverse range of machinery.
Desirable skills
- TIG welding, pipe fitting, boiler operations, strip pumps, fabrication and machining.
Shift Pattern
- Week 1: Monday‑Thursday night shift 6 pm‑6 am (4 × 12 h)
- Week 2: Wednesday‑Friday day shift 6 am‑6 pm (3 × 12 h)
- Week 3: Monday‑Tuesday and Friday day shift 6 am‑6 pm (3 × 12 h)
- Week 4: Wednesday‑Friday night shift 6 pm‑6 am (3 × 12 h)
- Week 5: Monday‑Wednesday day shift 6 am‑6 pm (3 × 12 h)
Flexibility is required to cover internal holidays.
