Job Description:

We are seeking a Financial Controller to join our team to ensure the accuracy, integrity and compliance of financial information flowing through our organisation.

This is a broad role offering you a combination of responsibilities from core finance processes, leading the operational relationship with external auditors while maintaining robust internal controls, policies and governance arrangements. We have also recently implemented a new ERP system, Iplicit and this is ready to be handed over to your stewardship to embed and optimise across our organisation.

We are looking for a Financial Controller to act as our control guardian, ensuring strong audit readiness, effective risk management and consistent application of financial disciplines.

Role Highlights

Location: Split between our Community & Activity Village in Newark & the Malt Cross in Nottingham with 1 day working from home.

Salary: £60,000 to £65,000 per annum.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. We are open to both full-time and part-time working arrangements and happy to discuss your individual requirements.

The Role

  • Oversee the financial control environment, ensuring robust internal controls, compliance and segregation of duties.
  • Provide assurance over P2P, O2C, banking and treasury processes delivered by the finance team.
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations, journals, payment runs and month-end outputs.
  • Lead the operational relationship with external auditors, coordinating audit evidence and responses.
  • Own the VAT returns within a complex, partially exempt VAT structure.
  • Maintain and update finance policies, procedures and control documentation.
  • Oversee system permissions, workflow governance and financial risk management.
  • Provide technical accounting judgement and escalation support to the Finance Director.

About You

  • You’ll combine technical expertise with the ability to see the bigger picture, bringing both rigour and creativity to your work.
  • You will bring a successful track record of policy formulation, change management and strategic development to our world.
  • Substantial experience of developing and implementing financial control procedures would be invaluable to support the next stage of our development.
  • More importantly, you’ll be someone who thrives on collaboration, can inspire and lead a team, and who is motivated by the opportunity to use your skills to create real social impact.
  • You will be CCAB / CIMA / ACCA / ACA Qualified and have equivalent relevant experience in a similar role with significant experience in financial control experience, including ownership of internal controls, compliance, and governance frameworks.
  • You will bring strong audit and statutory reporting expertise, including leading external audits, preparing evidence, and managing year-end close requirements.
  • You will have knowledge of working in robust control environments, ensuring effective segregation of duties, approvals, and oversight across P2P, O2C, and banking processes.
  • You will bring hands on financial oversight, including reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, journals, and identifying risks or anomalies to maintain ledger integrity.
  • You will bring experience leadership skills, confident to apply professional judgement, and advise senior stakeholders.

While not essential, any exposure of operating within organisations with complex income streams or high transaction volumes would be highly desirable as would experience in charity, not-for-profit, housing or multi-entity environments.
