Job Description:

Hunter & Hughes is seeking a UX Designer to support the design and delivery of user‑centred digital capabilities within high‑assurance Defence and National Security environments.

The successful candidate will work with delivery teams, technical specialists, operational users, and stakeholders to design intuitive, accessible, and effective user experiences for secure Government systems and services.

This role requires an individual who can understand user needs within complex operational environments and translate those needs into practical, usable, and scalable design solutions.

The UX Designer will contribute across the design lifecycle, including user research, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, and iterative service improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Conducting user‑centred design activities within Agile delivery teams
  • Supporting user research and translating findings into actionable design improvements
  • Producing wireframes, mock‑ups, user flows, and prototypes
  • Collaborating with developers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and stakeholders
  • Supporting usability testing and continuous improvement activities
  • Designing accessible and intuitive user experiences for operational users
  • Contributing to service design and digital delivery activities
  • Supporting design governance, standards, and consistency across products
  • Operating effectively within secure, high‑assurance Government environments
  • Balancing user needs, operational requirements, and technical constraints

Qualifications

Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience within UX Design or User‑Centred Design roles, ideally supporting Government, Defence, or complex technical delivery environments.

This role aligns broadly to SFIA Level 4/5 responsibilities, requiring individuals to apply user‑centred design practices with a degree of autonomy while contributing to broader delivery outcomes.

Security clearance

Current enhanced Developed Vetting (eDV) clearance is mandatory for this position.
