Job Overview
As a Principal Transport Planner within our Transport Planning team, you will report to your Regional Lead and work closely with the Practice Lead, Regional Leads, and the other Principal Transport Planners to oversee a dynamic team, collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to deliver innovative solutions. Your strategic vision and technical prowess will be instrumental in shaping the future of transportation infrastructure. The role primarily focuses on Public Sector clients through frameworks such as the Midlands Highways Alliance, OneTrafford Partnership, Transport Scotland, Department for Infrastructure (NI) Major Works and Partner contracts, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and the Government of The Bahamas. You will lead on the delivery of projects under these frameworks and for other clients.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the Transport Planning team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Build strong client relationships and contribute to winning new projects, raising the profile of Amey Transport Planning within the industry.
- Use your expertise in transport assessments, development control, transport modelling, travel plans, and early‑stage design to deliver impactful solutions.
- Oversee the successful execution of projects, ensuring high‑quality deliverables and adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Mentor and develop team members, nurturing technical and soft skills within a collaborative environment.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, driving innovation within the team.
Qualifications
- Proven track record in transport planning, ideally within a large consultancy delivering for Public Sector clients.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and work across multi‑disciplinary environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of transport assessments, development control, travel plans, active travel, early‑stage design and proficiency in software such as LinSig, TRL Junctions, Vissim, Paramics, SATURN, Visum, and AutoCad.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Relevant degree, ideally a master’s degree and chartered status if possible.
