Trust Doctor ST3+ in Medicine

Trust Doctor – Medical Same Day Emergency Care Units (Fixed Term, full‑time). The rota pattern is a mix of long days, providing cover for a 7‑day service.

The Trust operates two acute sites. The acute stroke unit is based at Calderdale Hospital, while specialist gastroenterology and oncology/haematology wards are located at Huddersfield.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care within the Medical Same Day Emergency Care Units.
• Cover a 7‑day service on a rota that includes long days.
• Participate in weekly Medical Grand Rounds, including journal club and core medical teaching sessions.
• Deliver non‑technical skills training such as handover and communication skills.
• Support junior doctors, including sign‑off of competencies for progression to higher training.
• Utilise the Clinical Skills Training Room for procedural practice (e.g. chest drain insertion, central venous cannulation).

Training & Development

• Encouraged to obtain membership of the Royal College of Physicians.
• Supported in preparing for MRCP and PACES examinations.
• Assistance provided for sign‑off of competencies to apply for higher training.

Collaboration with dedicated multidisciplinary teams ensures high standards of patient care across both Calderdale and Huddersfield sites.
