Practitioner Psychologist; Paediatric Rheumatology Service

The Child Health Psychology department at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales is looking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced full-time Practitioner Psychologist (Band 8A) to join the Paediatric Rheumatology team. The post will entail leading on the delivery of psychologically informed care within the service, providing expert professional direct and indirect clinical services, multi-disciplinary work, consultation, teaching, training and supervision. It is a full‑time role (1.0 WTE, 37.5 hours per week) based in a medical specialty where psychological leadership and highly specialist psychological skills are valued.
Responsibilities
The post holder will lead the delivery of psychologically informed care within the service, provide expert direct and indirect clinical services, work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, offer consultation, give teaching, provide training and supervision, and support service development and audit.
Qualifications
- Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS.
- HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist.
- Post‑graduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology accredited by the HCPC (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS).
- Post‑doctoral training in one or more additional specialist areas of psychological practice.
Experience
- Significant and demonstrable post‑qualification experience as an HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist.
- Clinical responsibility for the psychological care of clients presenting with a range of complex needs.
- Experience of working in community and/or in‑patient settings within a multidisciplinary context.
- Evidence of service audit, service development or innovation.
- Supervision of trainee and/or assistant psychologists and/or other healthcare professionals.
- Experience of working with adults and/or children and young people and their families within a medical setting.
Skills
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Providing consultation and advice on the delivery of psychological care in community and/or medical settings.
Specialist Knowledge
- Doctoral or equivalent postgraduate level knowledge of research design and methodology.
- Specialist knowledge of psychological models and therapies related to the needs of people with medical conditions.
- Evidence of working across diverse and marginalised communities or an understanding of the experiences of diverse or marginalised communities (e.g., those who identify as coming from a racialised minority background, the LGBTQIA+ community, those with physical or hidden disabilities, those from neurodiverse backgrounds, etc.).

Salary: £58,379 to £65,723 a year (pro rata).
