Senior Theatre Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to join our dynamic theatre team on a 9‑month secondment. The successful candidate will be proficient in general surgery scrub and/or anaesthetics, demonstrating advanced clinical skills and the ability to perform confidently in high‑acuity, time‑critical situations.
Strong leadership experience is essential, as you will play a key role in supporting team coordination, guiding junior staff, and promoting excellence in general surgery delivery.
This is an exciting opportunity for a committed practitioner to further develop their expertise, influence service improvement, and contribute to the high standards of patient‑centred care within our trauma surgery service.
Main duties of the job
This role will take on a pivotal leadership role in delivering high‑quality perioperative care within our General theatres. In this senior position, you will help drive excellence by upholding professional standards, supporting the development of SOPs, ensuring daily quality and safety assurance, and promoting best practice across the department. You will lead by example, empower colleagues, and be committed to delivering patient‑centred, safe and compassionate care.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
- Registered Nurse or ODP
- Diploma or degree in nursing or allied health professional studies
- Mentor/assessor qualification or working towards
- Leadership course or equivalent or working towards
Knowledge & Experience
- Extensive post‑registration experience in a theatre setting
- Management experience and/or experience of leading a team
- Expert knowledge in one specialism and proficiency in a second
Skills & Knowledge
- Ability to lead and influence others
- Effective problem solving
- Ability to have challenging conversations with a solution‑focused approach
- Ability to lead change
- Surgical First Assist or working towards

Contract and Remuneration
Secondment; £39,959 to £48,117 per annum pro‑rata. Full‑time working pattern.
