Senior Clinical Fellow – Infectious Diseases

We are offering a 12‑month fixed‑term contract for a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST3+ level) within our Tropical and Infectious Diseases Unit. The role involves work in inpatient ward areas and outpatient clinics at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT).
The appointed candidate must be willing to commence employment on 5 August 2026.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support patient care on Infectious Diseases wards at a level appropriate to their stage of training or career development, supported by educational and clinical supervision.
Participation in multidisciplinary meetings for Infection Radiology, TB, and HIV will be expected.
Attendance at educational meetings, including a weekly departmental teaching programme, journal and audit club, and monthly regional meetings for TB and HIV, is encouraged.
The role does not include on‑call responsibility and therefore has no additional remuneration for out‑of‑hours work. Successful applicants may be able to participate in the Hospital Medical on‑call rota where available, with appropriate additional remuneration.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will support patient care on Infectious Diseases wards, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and attend educational and audit meetings. The role does not include on‑call duties.
Person Specification
Registration and Qualifications
- GMC registration (with a licence to practise) and eligibility to work in the UK
- MBChB or equivalent
- Other postgraduate qualifications appropriate to stage of training, including MRCP and DTMH
Clinical
- Postgraduate clinical experience in a medical specialty, including the management of acutely unwell medical inpatients
- Demonstrable ability to work effectively within a healthcare system comparable to the UK NHS, with an understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and MDT working
- Up‑to‑date ALS
Research
- Demonstrated ability to apply evidence‑based medicine in clinical practice
- Evidence of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training; postgraduate research qualifications; publication in a peer‑reviewed journal or presentation at a national/international conference
Quality Improvement and change
- Evidence of active participation in clinical audit, service evaluation, or quality improvement initiatives
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Applicants will need to provide a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
Salary: £54,499 to £67,325 per annum, dependent on experience.
