As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer / Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and delivering electrical systems for complex engineering projects across the energy and utilities sectors. This is a varied and technically interesting position where you will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle from initial electrical design concepts through detailed engineering, technical coordination, project planning, and final customer handover.

Working closely with customers, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will help develop practical, compliant, and efficient electrical engineering solutions tailored to project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and delivering electrical systems for energy, utilities and industrial engineering projects
  • Producing high‑quality electrical designs in accordance with relevant industry regulations and engineering standards
  • Developing designs for low‑voltage electrical systems, including 400/230 V AC power distribution
  • Designing electrical infrastructure including
    • Lighting systems
    • Heating systems
    • Small power distribution
    • Plant power systems
    • Switchboards
    • Motor Control Centres (MCCs)
  • Ensuring electrical designs comply with standards such as BS7671, BS7430 and Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Supporting projects from concept and feasibility stages through detailed design and customer handover
  • Collaborating with customers and internal engineering project teams to develop effective technical solutions
  • Assisting with project planning activities and contributing to project scheduling
  • Producing engineering documentation and design outputs using industry‑standard software tools
  • Supporting continuous improvement and best practice within electrical design engineering activities

Required Skills & Experience

  • Electrical design engineering experience involving low‑voltage electrical systems
  • Strong understanding of 400/230 V AC power distribution
  • Experience designing plant electrical systems including switchboards, MCCs, lighting, heating and small power distribution
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering standards and compliance requirements including BS7671, BS7430 and Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Experience using engineering design and calculation software such as
    • Amtech
    • Dialux
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit
  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Desire to achieve Chartered Engineer status if not already attained
  • Strong communication and technical collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering teams and customer‑facing project environments
  • Experience in the energy, oil & gas, utilities, building services, infrastructure, industrial engineering or related sectors is highly advantageous
