Job Description

JR PAT Testing is an expanding PAT and compliance company currently looking for engineers to join our team in City of Westminster. We offer flexible, self‑employed positions that can be part‑time or full‑time.

Applicants must have reasonable commuting distance to City of Westminster, hold the City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, be reliable, honest and have a ‘can‑do’ attitude. Equipment must be kept up to date and meet relevant regulations.

The role involves traveling to various sites – from hospitals to retail outlets – to conduct portable appliance testing. Tasks include recording test results, advising users on appliance suitability, and completing necessary paperwork such as reports, completion certificates and checklists.

Earnings are on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, the number of tests and job dynamics. Projects range from one‑day assignments to longer contracts, allowing flexibility for both the engineer and the client.

Typical Day

Each day starts with packing tools and equipment into the van, then heading to the first job. On site, the engineer tests appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers, records findings, informs users, and completes any required paperwork. The work involves moving between sites, sometimes alone and sometimes as part of a team, requiring strong organisation and accurate testing.

Success in this role requires skill, experience, patience, and a commitment to safety. It is both physically and mentally demanding but offers variety and opportunities for advancement.

If you believe you have the skills and attitude required to be a PAT tester, we look forward to hearing from you.
