Job Summary
The Deputy Director for Productivity and Technology will lead the transformation of the Immigration Enforcement (IE) team, working at board level to advise senior Home Office officials. The role involves overseeing a £100 million budget, managing a team of approximately 50 people, and driving the execution of the Home Office 2030 Digital Strategy.
Responsibilities
- Lead modernisation initiatives across digital infrastructure, operational workflows, and emerging technologies such as AI‑enabled case progression and cross‑government data sharing.
- Own a transformation budget of around £100 million and ensure effective allocation and governance.
- Advise the Director General and senior Home Office officials, collaborating with external partners including the Ministry of Justice, HMPPS, policing and the FCDO.
- Translate strategy into measurable impact, building credibility quickly and inspiring teams to innovate with purpose.
- Manage end‑to‑end delivery of complex, high‑value programmes in a large, multifaceted organisation, navigating interdependencies, risk and stakeholder expectations.
Qualifications
- Strong programme and project management experience, with a proven record of leading large‑scale transformations.
- Deep technical knowledge in technology, data systems, and emerging AI tools, with experience applying technology to improve productivity.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain trusted relationships across organisational boundaries, influencing senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Political judgement and understanding of the UK public sector context, with the ability to make sound decisions in ambiguous environments.
- Qualifications in programme management (e.g., PRINCE2, MSP) and technology or AI fields (e.g., TOGAF, CISSP, CDMP) are strongly desirable.
- Alignment with the Government Digital and Data Profession Framework (DDaT) is expected.
