Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Urgent Eye Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for a Band 6 registered nurse to work within a team of dedicated urgent eye clinic triage nurses. This is a 32 hour per week permanent role. It is imperative that applicants have had recent Band 5 experience or above within an ophthalmic setting and have a good understanding of a variety of ophthalmic conditions. Although the role will predominantly be based in the Urgent Eye Clinic at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH), there will be some rotation required into Ophthalmology Outpatients RSH. There will also be rotational weekends which will work out to approximately 1 every 8 weekends which would be on a Saturday 08.00-13.00 and a Sunday 09.00-13.00.
Main Duties of the Job
- To function as a competent clinical practitioner within Urgent Eye Clinic and General Ophthalmology Out-patients.
- Delivering direct patient care using advanced ophthalmic nursing skills
- To be competent to individually assess, treat, plan and discharge Patients that meet criteria for nurse led clinic under in-direct supervision from Ophthalmologist within UEC.
- To be responsible for the safe delivery of clinical care during their span of duty.
- To ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of resources to deliver optimum quality care to their client group.
- Deputise for senior sisters in their absence driving forward evidence-based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and policies and practices that operate within their clinical area.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform ophthalmic triage effectively
- Works in conjunction with the ophthalmology medical team on a daily basis.
- Works a flexible shift pattern 8-6 which includes weekends to meet the needs of the service
