Erewash Borough Council is looking for a knowledgeable and forward‑thinking Building Control Officer to play a key role in delivering expert guidance across a broad range of domestic, commercial and mixed‑use developments.

Responsibilities

  • Assess building regulation applications and carry out site inspections.
  • Contribute to safe, sustainable and compliant developments across Erewash, Broxtowe, Mansfield, Ashfield and Gedling.
  • Support demolition licensing and the dangerous structures response service.
  • Mentor Assistant Building Control Officers and support professional development.
  • Participate in out‑of‑hours emergency standby on a rota basis.
  • Work on a wide range of varied and impactful projects.
  • Be part of a high‑performing, supportive local authority team.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Building Surveying (or equivalent relevant experience), or HNC/HND in construction and experience as a qualified Building Surveyor.
  • Ideally corporate membership or working towards corporate membership of CABE, CIOB or RICS.
  • Willingness (or ability) to achieve LABC Level 6 Competency through assessment and to achieve level 2F validation with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Understanding of the Building Act 1984 and the Building Regulations.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to maintaining high service standards.

Your usual workplace will be the Town Hall in Long Eaton, but you may travel to other sites within our partner authorities when required.
