An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed, highly skilled and enthusiastic Band 7 Charge Nurse / Sister to lead the Medical Day Unit in Chelsea.
The post holder will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operational management of the unit, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, safe and effective patient care.
Responsibilities
- Act as a clinical role model, promote effective multidisciplinary team working, support staff development and contribute to service improvement and patient experience.
- Create and maintain a safe, therapeutic clinical environment for all patients and their families.
- Co‑ordinate all functions and activities proactively within the designated clinical environment.
- Manage resources of the clinical area within budgetary limitations (finance, equipment, staff including temporary staff).
- Provide strong clinical leadership of the nursing and support workers that is motivating, supportive and sets clear boundaries, resulting in high quality safe patient care.
- Support a clinical learning environment that enables nursing staff to develop professionally and promotes the use of evidence in practice.
- Manage a coordinated day care nursing (chemotherapy and IV Services) service in liaison with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team, maximising high quality patient care.
- Monitor and review nursing practice regularly, participate in audits, and ensure documentation in accordance with Trust policy and NMC Guidelines.
- Maintain the continuity of quality nursing care that responds flexibly to patients’ and carers’ needs and includes a pathway to the community or relevant care setting.
- Deliver skilled and specialised nursing care involving complex physical skills (e.g. IV drug administration, administration of cytotoxic drugs) and provide expert knowledge of vascular access devices.
- Assist with invasive diagnostic medical procedures (e.g. lumbar punctures).
- Act as a professional role model for junior staff, demonstrating clinical competence, knowledge and a polite, compassionate attitude towards patients and families.
Qualifications
- Excellent clinical skills with significant experience in a chemotherapy day unit setting.
- Strong leadership abilities and a proactive, flexible approach.
- Qualified to the level of Band 7 Charge Nurse / Sister.
