Hours of work: 19.5 per week. Working pattern: Part-time, term‑time only (working for 39 weeks per year plus 5.05 weeks annual leave, which will increase after 5 years’ continuous service). Salary will be pro rata.

We are seeking a Family Support Practitioner

We are seeking a compassionate and supportive Family Support Practitioner who has a sound understanding of safeguarding. The role focuses on preventative and early intervention activities to tackle underachievement by working with families, parents, carers and children in school to overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for improving individual children’s attendance, serve as a Deputy Safeguarding Lead, liaise with outside agencies for attendance, safeguarding, and health‑related matters, and work with parents to improve outcomes for children.

Requirements

  • Full of positivity and have a passion for supporting children to thrive and flourish while showing initiative.
  • Can work well in a team under pressure.
  • Work independently using initiative or as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, a positive and enthusiastic approach, and confidence to develop positive relationships to support and challenge hard‑to‑reach families.
  • Confidence, resilience, and ability to deal with difficult or sensitive situations and resolve conflict.
  • Good understanding of ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and associated safeguarding procedures in nurseries and schools.
  • Knowledge of external agencies that can support families with a range of needs.
  • Ability to relate to parents when advising and supporting their child.
  • Excellent organisation, administration, communication, and IT skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively.
  • Report to the Senior Leadership Team and work alongside the office team.

The working pattern will be flexible within the term‑time hours. Harbour Primary & Nursery School is fully committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of all children. Employment will be subject to satisfactory DBS and Health Checks.

This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018. The school will ensure that it is not knowingly employing a person disqualified under the 2018 Regulations. The successful candidate will complete a self‑declaration form showing they have not been disqualified. If a preferred candidate is found disqualified, the offer will be subject to a waiver from Ofsted.
