Strategic Communications Lead – Business Services

Full‑time, 40 hours per week, 8am – 5pm
Hybrid, with UK‑wide travel as required; minimum two days per week at The Shard / Mitie office

We’re looking for a Strategic Communications Lead who will deliver high‑quality internal communications that strengthen understanding, pride and connection for more than 50,000 frontline colleagues across one of Mitie’s largest and most complex divisions.
Role Responsibilities
- Deliver the full internal communications calendar for Business Services, ensuring alignment with the Group narrative and senior leadership priorities.
- Translate strategic and operational priorities into clear, accessible messages that reach diverse frontline audiences, including deskless and shift‑based colleagues.
- Plan and execute BAU communications, operational announcements, safety‑critical updates and people‑focused engagement campaigns.
- Manage quick‑turnaround communications requests while maintaining quality, accuracy and consistency with internal communication standards.
- Commission content through the Channels, Content & Metrics team using clear, audience‑focused briefs aligned with persona models.
- Design and deliver frontline‑focused communications using best‑practice approaches such as huddles, Team Talk Local, manager briefings, MyMitie app content, digital screens, SMS and printed materials.
- Build strong relationships with Regional Managers, Contract Directors and frontline supervisors to embed communication routines into daily operations.
- Use data and insights (MyVoice, Glint, channel analytics) to continuously improve communication effectiveness.
- Act as a day‑to‑day adviser to operational leadership on messaging, timing, and managing communication risk.
- Work closely with HR, Safety, Finance, Operations, Mobilisation and Change teams to ensure communications are aligned and sequenced effectively.
- Support Group and divisional campaigns across culture, safety, benefits, digital adoption and people initiatives.
- Deliver communications for change programmes, restructures, new contract mobilisations and changes to operational ways of working.
- Uphold Mitie’s internal communications standards, tone of voice and governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety, HR and commercial requirements.
- Maintain communication plans, trackers and approval processes to ensure timely and flawless delivery.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must meet the below requirements for the role.
- Significant experience delivering internal communications within large, complex, operational environments (e.g., FM, logistics, retail, engineering, frontline services).
- Proven ability to simplify complex or sensitive information for frontline colleagues.
- Strong tactical delivery experience with excellent writing, planning and organisational skills.
- Experience partnering with senior operational stakeholders in high‑pressure, fast‑paced environments.
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to communicate with empathy and clarity.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities at pace.
- Strong judgement and confidence supporting urgent communications.
- Understanding of channel strategy and best practice for frontline engagement (e.g., huddles, cascades, mobile app‑based comms).
- Ability to build trusted relationships, influence stakeholders and operate with resilience and professionalism.
