The Role

NHS GG&C Older People’s Psychology Service (OPPS) are pleased to advertise a Principal Clinical Psychologist role within East Dunbartonshire’s Older People’s Community Mental Health Team. The main base of operations is in Woodlands Resource centre, Kirkintilloch with clinic time also being spent in other clinics within East Dunbartonshire. This post sits within the NHS GG&C East Dunbartonshire Mental Health Service. OPPS provides a highly specialist service to older people within the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area. Operational management is within the East Dunbartonshire HSCP and professional management is via the Older People’s Psychology Service and the Psychology Directorate. The post reports to an Operations Manager and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

This is a permanent post working part time hours (21.60). These hours will be worked Monday-Friday. 0900 1700 – working 3 days across Monday-Friday (to be negotiated). This post will be based at Woodlands Mental Health Resource Centre Waterloo Close, Kirkintilloch, G66 2HL. Salary is pro‑rata for part time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a valued member of a multidisciplinary mental health team comprising Psychiatry, Nursing, Occupational Health and Business Support colleagues.
  • Enhance the existing Clinical Psychology input to allow the delivery of highly specialist Psychological Therapies and Neuropsychological Assessment in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide specialised clinical psychology service supporting the delivery of psychological interventions and therapies to older people across all sectors of care.
  • Provide highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy and offer advice and consultation to non‑psychologist colleagues and other carers.
  • Work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to service development, audit and research priorities.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

  • Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge as a clinical psychologist, obtained through:
  • Postgraduate doctoral‑level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent pre‑1996), accredited by the BPS or HCPC, including:
    • Models of psychopathology
    • Clinical psychometrics
    • Neuropsychology
    • Two or more distinct psychological therapies
    • Lifespan developmental psychology
  • Formal training and supervised practice in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) across a range of presentations and severity, supervised by a qualified clinical or counselling psychologist.
  • Further post‑doctoral training, research, and study across a range of areas, including advanced clinical skills.
  • Experience in providing clinical placements and supervision to Trainee Clinical Psychologists undertaking a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, including:
    • Eligibility for relevant training that meets university accreditation criteria.
    • Post‑doctoral clinical experience to support this eligibility.
    • Registration with the HCPC as a clinical or counselling psychologist.
