Job Description:

Finance Manager

Main Contractor | West London | Construction / Project-Led Environment

We are working with a growing main contractor in West London who is looking to appoint a commercially minded Finance Manager to support the next stage of the business.

This is a hands-on finance role, but with far more scope than a standard transactional position. The successful person will work closely with the Finance Director and senior leadership team, supporting day-to-day financial operations while also gaining exposure to project accounting, cashflow, management reporting, commercial decision-making and wider business performance.

The role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the detail, but also has the judgement, confidence and ambition to grow into a broader leadership role over time.

The Role

You will be involved in:

  • Preparing management accounts, financial reports and cashflow forecasts
  • Managing weekly cashflow reporting and monitoring company reserves
  • Supporting project costing, WIP reporting, prelims and profitability analysis
  • Overseeing bookkeeping, reconciliations, payment runs and financial controls
  • Managing subcontractor payments, CIS, PAYE, VAT and payroll processes
  • Supporting month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting
  • Liaising with external accountants, auditors, banks and internal stakeholders
  • Working closely with commercial and operational teams to improve financial visibility
  • Supporting process improvements across finance, reporting and controls

The position combines the hands-on elements of finance operations with broader commercial and strategic exposure across a multi-entity construction group.

About You

We are looking for someone who is practical, switched on and commercially aware.

You may already be working as a Finance Manager, Assistant Finance Manager, Senior Finance Officer, Management Accountant or similar within construction, property, contracting or another project-led environment.

You will ideally bring:

  • Experience in construction or a project-based business
  • Strong bookkeeping, management accounts and financial processing experience
  • Good knowledge of cashflow, CIS, VAT, payroll and subcontractor payments
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Confidence working with operational and commercial teams
  • A proactive, hands-on and solutions-focused approach
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Experience with accounting systems, ideally QuickBooks or similar
  • AAT, ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent qualification / part-qualification would be beneficial

The key is character as much as experience. This role needs someone who is happy to roll their sleeves up, own the detail and build credibility from the ground up — while also having the commercial nous to progress over the next few years.

Why Apply?

  • Growing West London main contractor
  • Close exposure to the Finance Director and senior leadership team
  • Genuine long-term progression potential
  • Broad role across finance operations, reporting, cashflow and project accounting
  • Opportunity to make a visible impact in a successful construction business
  • Ideal for someone who wants more than a purely transactional finance role

This is a strong opportunity for an ambitious finance professional who wants to join a business where they can develop, take ownership and grow into a more senior commercial finance role over time.
