Job Summary
Outstanding Specialty or Associate Specialist Doctors in psychiatry are invited to apply for a full‑time Specialty Doctor role at Cygnet Newton House in Blackpool. The role offers the opportunity to progress to Consultant level through the prestigious CESR programme and to shape services within a high‑support inpatient rehabilitation (Level 2) and community rehabilitation (Level 1) service for men.
Main Duties
Cygnet Newton House provides a high‑quality environment dedicated to long‑term recovery. From admission the team works with patients to maximise positive outcomes and to support discharge plans, ensuring they transition to the least restrictive environment. The multidisciplinary team includes occupational therapy, psychology, psychiatry and vocational training.
Responsibilities
- Provide routine medical and psychiatric support, including initial clerking and mental state examinations of newly admitted patients.
- Carry out assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment of inpatients under Consultant supervision.
- Maintain good communication with ward nursing staff, mental health professionals and other agencies.
- Participate in weekly ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings, including CPA, Tribunal hearings and Section 117 meetings.
- Maintain full records of medical and psychiatric assessments and interventions.
- Prepare discharge summaries in line with company policies and guidelines.
- Attend mandatory training such as BLS, ILS, Breakaway training/PMVA training, Moving and Transferring, Infection Control, Health & Safety.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff and other concerned bodies, maintaining appropriate reports.
- Participate in the duty doctor rota as required.

Qualifications
- Fully GMC registered and qualified (MBBS or equivalent).
- Experience in general adult or rehabilitation psychiatry.
- Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
- Strong communication skills for interviewing, assessing, treating patients and writing clear, comprehensive medical notes.
- Committed to continued professional development.
- Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
