Job Description:

The Role

We are looking for a Testing & Development Engineer (Electrical Focus) to help us grow the product range and elevate the quality of our electrical engineering, systems, and people to new heights.

The role will be responsible for managing and overseeing the electrical testing and development elements of projects, including electrical systems, wiring harnesses, ECUs, sensors, power distribution, charging systems, software validation and related vehicle electrical architectures.

Timely decision-making and strong technical leadership are key to maintaining a productive and high-performance engineering environment. A hands‑on, practical engineering approach and a can‑do attitude are essential, along with the ability to challenge conventional thinking in a constructive and energetic way.

Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer of Testing & Development, you will be responsible for the development, validation, and verification of electrical systems and subsystems, across both new and existing vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, develop, and update Engineering Test Procedures (ETPs) with a focus on electrical systems and architectures and software sign-off.

  • Define and support electrical instrumentation and data acquisition requirements to execute ETPs effectively.

  • Work closely with Testing & Development Technicians to support the installation of electrical instrumentation, sensors, wiring, and data logging systems on test vehicles, rigs, and powertrains.

  • Oversee and manage electrical testing activities on‑site, at external laboratories, and at test tracks, covering both components and full vehicle prototypes.

  • Act as a technical link between Testing & Development and other engineering teams (e.g. electrical design, software, calibration, and systems engineering) to ensure test data aligns with electrical system intent.

  • Manage third‑party Engineering Service Providers (ESPs), ensuring external electrical testing and validation aligns with internal engineering standards and requirements.

  • Inspect electrical systems, components, and vehicle installations; investigate electrical faults and perform root cause analysis of electrical hardware issues and report software performance issues.

  • Process, analyse, and interpret electrical test data, presenting findings and writing clear, technical reports.

  • Support continuous improvement of electrical test methods, validation strategies, and diagnostic approaches.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong interest and detailed understanding of automotive electrical systems, including low‑voltage systems, power distribution, and vehicle electronics.

  • Practical hands‑on experience with electrical testing, diagnostics, instrumentation and software flashing.

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in an Automotive / Engineering environment, ideally with an electrical or electronic systems focus.

  • Strong understanding of whole vehicle electrical architecture, including wiring systems, sensors, ECUs, and integration with powertrain and chassis systems.

  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and structured problem‑solving techniques such as 8D analysis.

  • Experience working with prototype vehicles and evolving electrical system architectures.

  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.

  • Experience using electrical instrumentation, data logging systems, CAN tools, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Strong report writing and technical presentation skills.

  • Valid motorcycle licence and motorcycle riding experience are highly desirable.

  • Experience of EMC testing is highly desirable.

Please note, this role will require travel to UK testing locations and occasional international travel.
