We are recruiting for a Project Director to lead a £200m project in Oakham, Rutland with multiple assets on a live MOD establishment, which includes extensive cross site services upgrades and diversions, major new office building, accommodation and refurbishments.
As Project Director you will provide project leadership and be accountable for project delivery, including the creation and implementation of the project delivery strategy and associated plans to ensure Bovis successfully delivers our contractual obligations.
Essential characteristics and requirements include demonstrable experience in senior stakeholder management, strategic planning and leadership, problem solving, effective people management and a proven ability to lead in challenging and complex environments. You will be organised, an excellent communicator and have an excellent grasp of commercial aspects of large projects including NEC4 contracts, risk management, supply chain strategies and procurement.
In addition to the above as a senior leader in Bovis, you will be required to support the business unit in achieving its strategic objectives, including the Business Plan, Talent retention, development and recruitment, Work Winning and safety:
- Build new and leverage existing relationships with clients and key stakeholders to position Bovis for future opportunities.
- Understand client drivers to inform win strategies for identified pipeline opportunities, build and lead bid teams to develop compelling proposals to secure future work.
- Lead Pre-Construction teams to convert secured opportunities into contracts and into subsequent delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement the project strategy, processes and working methods using the Bovis management systems. To include project conversion plans and project delivery plans to ensure execution of project deliverables within agreed parameters (e.g. budget, time), in accordance with contractual requirements and Bovis quality standards.
- Creating and maintaining an Incident and Injury Free safety culture (design, client and trade contractors), demonstrating clear and uncompromising leadership to ensure we operate safely protecting everyone.
- Review progress, performance and report to Bovis leadership teams, provide monthly Business Reports and Reviews, internally and with clients.
- Identify corrective actions, develop solutions and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Lead on client and partner stakeholder relationships and managing project matters.
- Develop Programmes and schedules for your project, including development of site logistics and other plans. Coordinate all operations on site with your team determining an overall plan of works (including design, procurement, construction and commissioning). Coordinate the efforts of team members to ensure the required tasks are done on time.
- Maintain cost control, working with the project commercial lead to manage risk and opportunity.
- Develop a people plan with clear responsibilities and succession plans to support sustainable growth for people at project and within the business unit. This includes talent retention, talent development and recruitment.
- Develop project level quality plans and working culture to drive ‘Right first time’ culture in all aspects of the project.
- Lead project supply chain strategy, collaborating with other project teams and business leaders, including supply chain performance management.
- Contribute to the development of the project conversion process (e.g. budgets, frameworks) and project and design strategy to set a clear project framework and support the implementation of the project strategy, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Build and maintain external relationships (e.g. clients, contractors/subcontracts) to increase networks and manage the performance and development of the project team through coaching, mentoring and building required skill sets to ensure that staff are adequately resourced to perform.
- Relevant NVQ Level 7 or Construction Degree
- Driving Licence
- Ability to achieve Security Vetting to the Security Cleared (SC) Standard
- CIOB PCCS accreditation in category A or B

- Detailed understanding of programme planning and methodologies to allow durations to be agreed and sequencing of the works to be developed.
- An in-depth knowledge of the construction process and construction methods.
- Knowledge of current construction laws, legislations, and regulations, standards and procedures.
- Knowledge of the relevant codes, regulations, and standards that apply to projects
- Construction contracts and their impact on ours and our suppliers works
- Desirable knowledge
- Knowledge of existing Bovis business processes, software, tools and project controls.
- NEC4 ECC contract mechanisms from head contract into subcontract.
- Proven ability to measure project performance using appropriate tools, systems, and techniques.
- Proven track record and experience in the delivery of circa £180/200m large scale multiple building and infrastructure projects including complex major office buildings.
- Experience of dealing with clients, contractors and construction activities.
- Experience of project planning (P6 software) resource allocation.
- Management of design& consultant teams.
- Experience in design of temporary and permanent works (including BIM, BIW, CAD).
- Pre-construction and site establishment experience.
- Design, procurement, construction and delivery experience.
- Experienced with and capable of being part of a bid team and undertaking pre-construction planning.
- Bidding and work winning experience
- Working on MOD projects under the NEC 3 or 4 contract forms including developing the back to back subcontracts with design teams and supply chains.
- Establishing and Delivering Security Management plans in line with requirements.
- Strategic thinking and supporting the team in reaching successful outcomes.
- Flexibility and openness of approach and willingness to work as a team player.
