We are Doccla, redefining how healthcare is delivered. Our Virtual Ward and Remote Monitoring Solutions enable hospitals and health systems to care for patients at home, supporting early discharge, acute recovery, long‑term condition management, and proactive care. We provide everything clinicians need, from medical‑grade devices to an end‑to‑end clinical platform built around real‑world workflows. We currently work with over 60% of NHS ICBs and health systems across the UK, Ireland, France, and the DACH region, and are backed by top European investors after securing £35m in Series B funding.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality, compliant software writing well‑tested, maintainable code across the full stack that meets regulatory requirements and protects patient safety.
- Lead technical delivery, driving complex projects through simple, pragmatic solutions while staying close to detail and getting hands dirty with whatever needs doing.
- Improve systems by advocating for technical work that reduces debt, strengthens reliability, and drives platform maturity.
- Collaborate across teams, working closely with Product, Design, and fellow engineers to ensure we are solving the right problems and shipping with confidence.
- Raise the bar by reviewing PRs with empathy and clarity, mentoring teammates, and helping build a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to engineering‑wide initiatives, engaging in tech cooperatives, sharing knowledge, and helping elevate standards across the organisation.
Qualifications
- Strong production experience as a full‑stack engineer with Elixir on the backend, confident in OTP and the ecosystem to build and maintain production systems.
- Confident in picking up frontend React, able to contribute to responsive, accessible interfaces.
- Experience in a startup or scale‑up environment, comfortable with ambiguity, resilient through change, and able to adapt quickly as priorities shift.
- Hands‑on experience with databases and GraphQL in production environments.
- Track record of leading technical delivery on complex projects, breaking down problems, making pragmatic trade‑offs, and shipping reliably.
- Experience in a regulated or compliance‑heavy environment (healthcare or medical device experience is a strong plus).
- Experience producing clear technical documentation that supports compliant delivery, informed decision‑making, and safe long‑term maintenance.
- History of improving the systems and codebases you work in, actively strengthening quality, test coverage, and operational health.
What We’re Looking For
- A pragmatic engineer who champions simplicity, resists over‑engineering, and guides grounded trade‑offs.
- Someone who takes patient safety seriously, ensuring traceability, risk‑aware development, and structured change control are integral to their work.
- Happy to tackle anything the team needs, whether inside their comfort zone or outside it, big or small.
- A clear, proactive communicator who keeps stakeholders informed, flags risks early, and translates technical complexity for non‑technical audiences.
- The drive to adopt AI tooling such as Claude and Copilot to enhance productivity and share learnings with the wider engineering org.
- A collaborative mindset that builds strong relationships, reviews code with care, and actively helps teammates grow.
- Someone who takes ownership of problems end to end, doesn’t stay stuck, and knows when to escalate.
Skills & Attributes
- Curious and kind, always thinking of the best for others and doing their best to help rather than complain.
- Natural fosterer of psychological safety, defaulting to openness and supporting colleagues from all backgrounds.
- Never afraid to own issues, proactively identifying problems, driving them to resolution, and continuously improving how we build.
- Patient‑first mindset where quality, compliance, and safety are defaults, not boxes to tick.
- Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to code quality, testing, and operational excellence.
- High integrity, professionalism, and a calm, respectful presence, especially when situations get difficult.
