Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in the Acute Medicine Department at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful motivated and enthusiastic candidate to join the team based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe. This is a fixed term post until February 2027 to cover Sabbatical Leave.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a passion to improve the quality of patient care. They will have strong communication skills and be an excellent “Team Player”. They will value training and education.

The successful applicants must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a License to Practice.

The vision of the Acute Medical Unit is to consistently provide a caring, professional, high quality, efficient clinical service for patients who present with an acute medical condition to secondary care from the community, Emergency Department or following a clinic attendance.

Job responsibilities

9 PAs (DCC): which includes 1.25 PAs to cover scheduled on-call work (identified as on-call on job plan timetable).

1 core SPA PA per week to support appraisal and revalidation.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Additional higher degrees relevant to this post
  • Other postgraduate qualification e.g. MD, PhD
  • Qualified educational supervisor

Experince

  • Extensive experience in Acute / General Internal Medicine
  • Other specialties will be considered but especially desirable would be Respiratory Medicine, Care of the Elderly/Frailty, Diabetes or Rheumatology

Ability

  • Recognised ability to work within, and provide leadership to, the multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility of approach
  • Commitment to clinical risk management and implementation of clinical governance
  • Effective team leader

Audit and Research

  • Relevant experience in clinical audit
  • Relevant experience in research and evidence of publications
  • Ability to develop evidence based practice
  • Research leading to MD or PhD

Teachhing and Education

  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
  • Experience and interest in teaching both junior medical and non-medical staff
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning
  • Commitment to teaching
  • Membership of Society of Acute Medicine
  • Recognised teaching skills course Special interest in role development and staff training
  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
  • Membership of relevant medical associations/learned societies

Other

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff at all levels of the organisation
  • Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice)
