Job Description:

We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity for a Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Oncologist to join the paediatric oncology team within the Children and Young People’s Cancer Service. This is a fixed‑term position of 12 months to cover maternity leave. We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled colleague to provide expert care to children and young people with cancer, with a particular interest in late effects. The role also involves supporting clinical oncologists in delivering proton‑beam radiotherapy to external patients (e.g. brain tumours, rare tumours, or sarcoma).

You will work within UCLH, one of the UK’s most complex NHS trusts, delivering acute and specialist services across several sites.

Responsibilities

  • Programmed activities: 7 activities per week across UCLH sites, including ward rounds (minimum 2 per week) and community visits.
  • Emergency duties, including any work arising from on‑call coverage.
  • On‑call: contribute to the CYPCS acute on‑call rota as a 1:7 consultant on call for paediatric oncology and 1:7 weekends with ward rounds on site each day; continue on‑call from home for additional support.
  • Attending: approximately 10 weeks per year with clinical responsibility for acute oncology care in inpatient, ambulatory, radiotherapy suites at Grafton Way, and outpatient environments.
  • Multi‑disciplinary meetings (MDT) related to patient care, including the late‑effects MDT and psychosocial MDTs in paediatrics and TYA.
  • Outpatient clinics: conduct 2–3 clinics per week, one of which focuses on late effects.
  • Collaborative working with the Clinical Oncology team to provide paediatric oncology expertise for external patients referred for proton‑beam and photon radiotherapy.
  • Administration directly related to the above, including referrals and notes.

Benefits

£113,565 – £150,569 per year plus London weighting, pro‑rata (on‑call Cat A 5 %)
