We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Maternity Services team in a key Quality Improvement role. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of Maternity Services, supporting the development and delivery of complex, high-value projects aligned to Maternity Patient Safety priorities and Quality Improvement programmes.

The successful post holder will work closely with the Maternity Senior Team, clinical teams, and wider organisational stakeholders to support the implementation and delivery of improvement projects across services. The role will involve working across departmental and organisational boundaries to embed quality improvement methodology, promote best practice, and support sustainable service development.

The post holder will play a pivotal role in supporting and championing the UHB Quality Improvement Programme using the Model for Improvement framework. Working alongside local change champions, they will help develop, implement, and monitor improvement projects to enhance safety, quality, and patient experience within maternity services.

Applicants should have significant experience in leading and implementing change projects within large public sector organisations, ideally within an acute NHS setting. The successful candidate will be skilled in using a range of quality improvement tools and methodologies and will have the ability to engage and influence multiple stakeholders across teams and organisations.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working at the heart of Maternity Services and across departmental and organisational boundaries to contribute to the development and initiation of complex, high-value projects in line with the Maternity Patient Safety priorities and Quality Improvement Programmes.

The post holder will work with the Maternity senior team to manage and support the delivery of quality improvement projects.

The post holder will play a key role in helping embed quality improvement processes and best practices across maternity services and will help transfer knowledge to colleagues involved in project delivery.

The successful applicant will have significant experience of implementing a wide variety of change projects to a formal methodology within large public sector organisations, preferably within the acute NHS setting and will be able to work across organisational boundaries.

Using and championing best practice approaches and a wide range of improvement tools the post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of a number of improvement and strategic delivery projects with multiple stakeholders.

The post holder will support the UHB Quality Improvement programme using the Model for Improvement by engaging with local “change champions” in the development, implementation and progress tracking of their projects.

Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree level
  • Masters level qualification in relevant subject or equivalent training / development and experience PRINCE2, APMG or equivalent qualifications in project management or relevant experience
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience at a management level Evidence of personal development through formal courses and/or experience
  • Registered Healthcare Professional

Experience

  • Experience of implementing a wide variety of improvement projects to a formal methodology within large public sector organisations
  • Experience of risk, issue and project change management
  • Experience in building credible project plans, identifying activities, resources, timescales, milestones and critical path Experience of working across organisational boundaries and of delivering projects across multi-disciplined teams working with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience of using and implementing a wide range of quality project management tools, templates and techniques
  • Experience and evidence of the use of effective facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of the NHS Constitution, the Trust vision, values and strategic objectives; and the current change agenda
  • Developed knowledge of project management methodology, processes, structure and governance
  • Knowledge of benefits management processes
  • Knowledge of formal stakeholder management and communication tools and techniques and their use in projects
  • Implementation of improvement and change projects within the NHS
  • Experience in using advanced problem-solving skills and creative thinking to establish innovative solutions -engineering methodologies
  • Knowledge of a range of useful tools used during the implementation of change, for example RACI charts, process mapping

  • Able to present effectively to a wide variety of audiences in an engaging manner that makes information clear and obtains buy in
  • Able to work independently where necessary, to tight deadlines and to prioritise effectively against conflicting priorities
  • Able to work as part of a team and able to lead and direct multi‑skilled teams Able to use the Microsoft Office Suite to an advanced standard (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Facilitation skills to direct and support individuals and teams through service redesign projects and achieving measurable outcomes
  • Able to demonstrate that you are honest, reliable and trustworthy
  • Treat patients, visitors, colleagues with respect
  • Ability to travel between Trust sites Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the team, the service and the Trust Energy and enthusiasm
  • Lean or similar methodology and project management experience and ability to apply these concepts to the Trust’s circumstances
  • Data handling and analysis
