We provide highly specialised care for a wide variety of patient groups within haematology and oncology, between 8am and 8pm Monday to Saturday. Staff in this friendly and supportive team develop a range of advanced skills and knowledge by rotating between the four main areas of Daycare, Supportive Care, Apheresis, Chemotherapy and Ambulatory care.

We are looking to appoint a Deputy Sister/Charge nurse to work in our Supportive Care unit which provides holistic care for haemato‑oncology patients.

The Haematology/Oncology Daycare Unit as a whole is a sociable, fast‑moving and progressive area which actively supports nurse‑led activities and research and offers excellent opportunities for professional and personal development.

Main duties of the job

The candidate is required to have existing specialist haemato‑oncology experience to meet the requirements of the position at entry (foundation) level with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 or equivalent (30 of which must be haematology/cancer nursing education), be competent in chemotherapy administration and patient education, and possess knowledge and skills in all areas of IV administration (including blood products) and be competent in cannulation and venepuncture.

Job responsibilities

You will develop key working relationships with all members of the multi‑professional team, including nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and support workers. Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Minimum 45 credits at Level 3 or equivalent (30 of which must be haematology/cancer nursing education) or equivalent experience in the specialty
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent
  • Attained a Bachelor or Masters Degree
  • Studying towards a degree or willing to undertake

Experience

  • Proven clinical experience at Band 5 (or equivalent) with relevant haemato‑oncology experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Chemotherapy competent, advanced IV administration skills
  • Evidence of developing expertise in clinical practice relevant to haematology
  • Willing to work on established nursing information systems, EPR or the relevant information system

Communication

  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates awareness of the importance of and ability to work as part of a team
  • Able to act as a patient advocate

  • Demonstrates evidence of professional development
