Band 5 Staff Nurse – Critical Care: ICU/HDU – Base site St. Helier ICU

Main duties of the job

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care within sphere of responsibility.
  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high standards of care to critically ill patients and ensures plans of care reflect current patient care needs.
  • Is aware and adheres to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To provide quality, holistic care of a high standard to both the critically ill patients and their families within Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • To liaise and cooperate with other relevant departments within the hospital.
  • To act as a resource for peers, patients, relatives, carers and other staff groups.
  • To participate in the unit and nursing service development in a proactive manner.
  • To ensure safe patient care, staff may be asked, at short notice, to work at either Epsom General Hospital or St Helier Hospital ICU/HDU. This decision would be made by the ICU/HDU Matron, taking into account staffing, skill mix, patient dependency and acuity and capacity within both units.

Qualifications / Training

  • NMC registration current/pending.
  • Evidence of recent / ongoing development.
  • Degree in Nursing.

Experience

  • Relevant Acute NHS ward experience.
  • Evidence of motivation and desire to work in critical care.
  • Previous critical care experience as student or RN.
  • Post qualification acute ward experience.

Skills

  • Excellent general nursing skills delivered with care and compassion.
  • Able to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of priorities in caring for critically ill patients.
