Overview
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join its established consultant team. The post is based at West Middlesex University Hospital and contributes to the delivery of high‑quality general and specialist obstetrics and gynaecology services across both sites.
The successful post holder will work closely with consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary team members to support safe, effective, and patient‑centred care. Core clinical responsibilities include supporting the on‑call rota, leading and supporting the Bereavement service, Perinatal Mental Health service, Obstetric Endocrine service, and providing leadership and clinical support for the postnatal service.
Stakeholder assessment and interview will take place in‑person on 11th June 2026.
Responsibilities
- Provide a high quality consultant‑led service in Bereavement and Perinatal Mental Health, and on the labour ward and on‑call.
- Develop, write and implement pathways for patients within the Obstetric services in line with Trust governance policies.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team to undertake a senior role in the general provision of Obstetric and Gynaecological Services at West Middlesex Hospital.
- Contribute to the on‑call rota and support on‑call commitments as part of the departmental rota.
- Provide senior leadership in the management of high‑risk patients antenatally, intrapartum and postpartum in close cooperation with other specialties.
- Attend all theatre cases to perform surgery, unless a trainee is competent to perform the operation with indirect supervision.
- Assess and deliver immediate medical attention to deteriorating elective post‑op patients.
- Support obstetric colleagues with advice and surgical assistance, e.g. major obstetric haemorrhage.
- Support the Emergency Surgical Consultant with a consultant gynaecological opinion and ultrasound where feasible.
- Deliver high quality care to patients, ensuring adherence to GMC standards for Good Medical Practice.
- Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties of the post.
- Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
- Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and respond to their views.
- Demonstrate, model and encourage Trust values at all times to all patients and staff.
- Provide teaching for medical students (tutorials, ward, clinic and theatre based learning) and postgraduate teaching, and participate in departmental meetings.
- Conduct regular audits, supervise Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) undertaken by trainees, and support general management and committee work for the hospital.
