Salary: £38000 – £47000
I am currently recruiting on behalf of my client, a friendly and growing engineering and manufacturing business based in Weymouth, Dorset, who are looking to appoint a Planner / Estimator to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served engineer who is perhaps looking to move away from the shop floor and into a more commercially and operationally focused role, while still utilising their technical expertise. The position offers the chance to become a key link between customers, production, and internal departments within a supportive and approachable working environment.
The Role as Planner / Estimator
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the business, combining estimating responsibilities with planning and workload coordination. Working closely with engineering, production, procurement, and commercial teams, you will ensure accurate costings, effective scheduling, and clear communication across the organisation.
Key responsibilities as Planner / Estimator will include:
Preparing accurate and competitive estimates within an engineering and manufacturing environmentInterpreting technical drawings and specifications to build detailed cost breakdownsCreating and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs)Supporting production planning and workload scheduling to ensure on-time deliveryLiaising confidently with clients to clarify requirements and provide technical input where requiredCoordinating with internal stakeholders across engineering, purchasing, production, and managementMonitoring project progress and updating plans or costings as necessaryContributing to continuous improvement within planning and estimating processesAbout You

Estimating experience within an engineering and manufacturing settingStrong understanding and practical experience of Bills of MaterialsPlanning and workload coordination experienceThe ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentationCommercial awareness and attention to detailConfident communication skills with the ability to liaise with customers and a wide range of internal teamsA friendly, approachable manner with the ability to build strong working relationshipsStrong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyThe Business
