Overview

An exciting leadership role within the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS). The position involves providing strategic direction, leadership and operational management of Quality and Regulatory Compliance, reporting directly to the Director of SNBTS and being a member of the Senior Management Team.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, develop and implement a programme of work to improve the quality and regulatory compliance of blood, tissue, cell and advanced therapies while delivering efficiencies and sustainability.
  • Develop close and effective relationships with key external stakeholders including regulators, professional auditors, other UK and international blood services, Scottish Government, territorial health boards and universities.
  • Deliver transformational leadership to staff, ensuring a high‑quality workforce is appropriately developed and supported while exercising governance over operational, financial performance and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Postgraduate (Masters) level education or equivalent professional qualification. A quality or regulatory professional qualification is essential, along with professional accreditation in a management or similar discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Significant demonstrable experience in:
    • Quality management and regulatory compliance of blood, tissues, cells and/or advanced therapies.
    • Senior strategic and operational management covering financial, performance and risk management within a large complex organisation.
    • Management of major projects and initiatives, with a comprehensive understanding of the legislative and regulatory environment; proven project management and/or advisory experience.
    • Leading and managing specialist and multi‑disciplinary, high‑calibre staff; maintaining awareness of relevant policies and guidelines (e.g. PIN guidelines, HR policies, Freedom of Information Act).
    • Excellent communication skills, including simplifying complex information and operating at all levels within the NHS and other healthcare providers.
    • Ability to operate effectively under pressure with a high level of personal integrity.
    • Vision, imagination and an action‑oriented, results‑driven mindset.

Location and Working Pattern

Based at the Jack Copland Centre in Edinburgh. Working pattern Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week. Applicants must live and remain a resident within the UK.
