Dr Mahbub’s Surgery, Brace Street Health Centre is seeking an enthusiastic, committed and caring Physician Assistant to join a single‑handed GP practice.

It is a full‑time post, with A&C equivalent pay, and involves working closely alongside the GP Partner and Sessional GPs.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide patient care from presentation through history, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation, under supervision.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in clinical decision‑making, including assessment, diagnostic skills and safe care delivery.
  • Consult patients face‑to‑face, by telephone and online (eConsult) for both acute and chronic cases.
  • Review and act on blood results, referrals and correspondence regarding patients.
  • Participate in all treatment and preventative healthcare services as delegated by supervising GPs.
  • Order and interpret investigations, formulate diagnoses and treatment plans, and educate patients on preventive health.
  • Document all aspects of patient care and complete required paperwork, including fee claims.
  • Contribute to the clinical development and improvement of the practice, including chronic disease management and audit activities.
  • Attend multi‑disciplinary meetings, clinical governance meetings and training sessions.

About us

The practice is based at Brace Street Health Centre (63 Brace Street, Walsall WS1 3PS). It serves approximately 3,500 patients and is led by Dr Mahbub. The team includes two locum GPs, a practice nurse, a PA and PCN/ARRS staff, and admin/reception staff.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience working in a GP practice; training will be provided.
  • Previous experience as a Physician Assistant in a GP practice is desirable, but not required.

Qualifications

  • Completed a post‑graduate physician associate course (e.g., PG Diploma or MSc).
  • Maintained professional registration with the Faculty of Physician Associates and/or the General Medical Council.
  • Familiar with EMIS system (Optum).
  • Familiarity with the PA Managed Voluntary Register and national re‑certification procedures.

Professional Registration

Staff must be registered and comply with the relevant Codes of Conduct. Proof of registration and renewal must be produced on appointment.
