If you are passionate about making a difference, then please apply to join us on our journey to excellence, The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust delivers specialist elective surgical treatments to patients from the Rotherham area, providing in-patient and day surgery operating, out-patient Minor Oral Surgery, and out-patient clinics at Rotherham General Hospital. In addition, the department provides a specialist OMFS emergency service for patients from the catchment areas of Rotherham, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals. The Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at Rotherham General Hospital treats the full spectrum of OMFS diagnoses. Special interests within the department are head and neck cancer surgery, salivary gland surgery including the management of salivary gland calculi using sialo endoscopy, orthognathic surgery, the surgical management of skin cancers of the head and neck, and implant surgery. In addition, the department treats a large volume of maxillofacial trauma, and the consultants in the department are experienced in the use of up-to-date techniques such as orbital reconstruction using custom-made orbital implants, and the management of fractures of the mandibular condyle with endoscopically assisted fixation. Approximately 350 emergency cases are operated on in the department each year. Patients with head and neck mucosal malignancy are diagnosed in the outpatients department at Rotherham. Minor H+N cancer surgery is carried out at Rotherham Hospital, and patients who require major Head and Neck cancer surgery are treated at the Head and Neck Cancer surgical centre at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. A large volume of dento-alveolar surgery is carried out in the department, under general anaesthesia, IV sedation and local anaesthesia. Children who require dental extractions under general anaesthesia are treated in the purpose-built Poswillo Unit minor surgery suite at Rotherham General Hospital.
