Resident Support Manager (Maternity Cover)
Location: Bermondsey, London SE16 (occasional travel to other sites) | Salary: Competitive | Contract: 6–8 months maternity cover | Hours: 37 hours per week. Salary £45k per annum.
The Opportunity
An established almshouse charity is seeking a Resident Support Manager to lead resident support services in Southwark. This role sits at the heart of the community, coordinating pastoral and welfare support, enabling independent living and ensuring residents can access the right care and services at the right time. You will line manage two Resident Support Officers and work closely with colleagues to build a safe, welcoming and connected environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and line manage the resident support team, ensuring a visible, responsive on-site service.
- Develop and oversee support that enables residents to live independently for as long as possible, tailoring help to individual needs.
- Coordinate care and connect residents with local agencies and providers, ensuring residents have the information needed to live safely.
- Provide first-point housing management support, including basic enquiries, repairs, neighbour issues and complaints.
- Manage voids and allocations processes with the Head of Housing, helping minimise turnaround times and income loss.
- Drive resident engagement: plan inclusive activities, manage budgets and encourage use of technology/assistive tech.
- Oversee building safety and compliance, including safeguarding practice, fire awareness and maintenance processes with staff and contractors.
- Support on-site research activity as required, including resident liaison and wellbeing/outcomes data collection.
The Candidate
- Experience of working with older people, ideally in community, sheltered/supported housing, health or social care settings.
- Able to support and lead a small team; line management experience desirable.
- Working understanding of safeguarding vulnerable adults and confident escalating appropriately.
- Strong administration, organisation and communication skills, with excellent IT, numeracy and literacy.
- Friendly, flexible and calm under pressure; empathetic and solutions-focused.
- Able to plan and prioritise workload to meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive practice.
- Desirable: basic housing management knowledge, welfare/housing benefits awareness, and a relevant qualification (or willingness to work towards).
