Are you a proactive self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are ever the same? We are a leading, private-equity-backed infrastructure specialist with a nationwide footprint. And we are looking for a resilient professional, forward-thinking Fleet Hire Co-ordinator to take full ownership of our spot-hire operations.

This isn’t a role for someone looking for a “quiet life” or a regimented, predictable routine. We are undergoing a significant professionalisation journey, and we need someone with the “muck in” attitude required to help us reach the next level.

The Challenge: Mastering the “Perfect Storm”

The hire fleet represents about one-third of our total fleet; they must meet specialist “Chapter 8” specifications. Recently, a combination of supply chain and high demand created a “perfect storm,” highlighting the need for a dedicated expert to transition this function from a reactive state to a proactive, well-oiled machine.

The Role: Impact and Autonomy

This isn’t just about ticking boxes; it’s about “stamping your mark” on a crucial business area. You will be the central point of contact for 36 diverse depots, anticipating their needs before they become emergencies.

  • Strategic Co-ordination: Manage all hire and off-hire requests with nationwide suppliers and operational teams.
  • Forward Planning: Engage directly with depot managers to forecast demand and ensure we have the right kit in the right place at the right time.
  • Asset & Cost Management: Explore internal capacity first to save costs, resolve invoice queries, and rigorously track vehicle damage and off-hire charges.
  • Insightful Reporting: Produce weekly fleet lists and utilisation reports to give the business clear visibility of our hire spend and efficiency.

  • Hire Industry Veteran: You likely come from a high-volume vehicle or plant hire background.
  • A “Self-Starter”: You don’t wait for a list of instructions, you see a problem, think outside the box, and fix it.
  • Relationship Builder (with a Backbone): You can navigate different personalities across 36 depots and aren’t afraid to challenge non-compliance or unnecessary costs.
  • Data Literate: You are highly competent in MS Office, particularly Excel, with a sharp eye for accuracy.
